2017 Spring Dress Trends for the Everyday Woman

Along with clear blue skies, warm days and balmy evenings, spring reminds me of pretty dresses and open-toed sandals. Yes, it’s time to bid adieu to wool coats and don more feminine spring dress. With every season, styles evolve. Spring 2017 is no exception. Along with a versatile color palette, spring dresses will see the influence of years past with longer hemlines and fuller figures, modified with a contemporary twist. Here are some trends that most women can easily incorporate into their wardrobe.

Maxi Dress

The breezy maxi dress has been around for some time now. Versatile and flattering, maxi dresses gives a new dimension to your look. Whether you’re headed for a shopping escapade with friends or a date, long maxi dresses provide much-needed casual glam. For enhanced fluidity, opt for a dress that reaches the floor rather than the ankles. For spring 2017 colors run the gamut. Flaunt your fiery side with bold orange or highlight your simplicity with minimal white. Choose from geometric patterns, stripes, animal or floral prints. Forego the stilettos; pair your maxi dress with flats or platforms for added inches.

Midi Dress

Midi dresses took a backseat with the advent of sexy minis in the past. For spring 2017 women will see plenty of mid-calf length dresses from their favorite retailers. A midi hemline falls between the knee and the ankle, it is a great alternative for those who find the length of maxi dresses uncomfortable and annoying. However donning a midi dress is not as simple as it looks. The tall divas might be able to carry the elegance of a midi with ease, but for petite women like myself it can be a challenge. I try to choose ones that make a flattering visual effect. If not, I stick to mid-length skirts with a fitted top.

Military-Inspired

Elegant and sophisticated, the military-inspired dress is a personal favorite. Don’t be intimidated by the rich details, a military dress looks glamorous. Choose a military-inspired spring dress that cinches the waist and highlights your feminine contours. Flap pockets, tabbed sleeves and belted waist add details for a fashionable spring look. Accentuate the dress with a pair of gladiators and an armful of silver bangles.

Utility Shirt Dress

On the same note as the military-inspired dress, the utility shirt dress lends a comfortable and relaxed look. Take inspiration from this A-line utility dress by Ann Taylor, it comes with a Mandarin collar, utility pockets and adjustable belt. A utility shirt dress can be the perfect choice for a day-to-date night.

Something White

Although runways saw models strutting in bright neon, my favorite is the all-white trend. Nothing beats a delicate white dress on a spring day! You will find whites in an abundance of different styles this spring, from dreamy and romantic maxi dresses to strong and bold sheath dresses.

Stripes

Who knew stripes could be so trend setting? After all didn’t their moment already pass? From a casual striped day wear dress to a bold striped cocktail dress, classic lines will be everywhere. Incorporating this style is simple and inexpensive. Full figured women can put their apprehensions to rest – vertical thin lines work great for a slimming effect. When sporting a stripe dress, keep accessories to a minimum for a clean and stylish look.

Lace

Victorian-inspired lace dresses take you on a romantic and dreamy journey to the past. However, for spring 2017, lace is neither delicate nor subdued. This black lace dress from Free People offers a hip and modern look with stand-up neckline, black trim, waist sash and a tiny black slip lining. My favorite however is this classic sleeveless lace dress by Oleg Cassini, it offers old-world charm and elegance.
